Earlier this fall our students spent a morning at the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science on Biscayne Boulevard — an easy bus ride from campus and one of the best science museums on the East Coast.
What students saw
The museum’s exhibits made it possible to physically see things they’ve been studying all semester:
- The three-level aquarium, with marine life native to Florida and the Gulf
- The planetarium, with an 8K projection system that shows the cosmos at a scale you can’t get from a textbook
- Power of Science — an interactive deep-dive on technologies shaping the next decade
- MeLab — an exploration of how the human brain and body interact, hands-on
Why these trips matter
A field trip isn’t a day off — it’s a way to take the abstract and make it physical. When a student sees a real scientific concept demonstrated in front of them, the classroom version starts to make sense in a different way. For a student deciding whether they like science, a morning at the Frost Museum can quietly tip the scales.
Miami’s a city full of these resources. We use them.
